Arrack and coconut – like yin and yang – are inextricably linked. Can a shadow exist without light? Neither can Ceylon Arrack exist without the coconut. And – as far as taste goes – the two complement each other perfectly. This is how local islanders love to drink their arrack, and it dates back to the days of the kings, when it was served to royals visiting from other nations. The word aliya means “elephant” in Sri Lanka.
